Agenda Message: I can tell you about Social Smart. Check out the Blog.

Today some children received a speaking part for the BUGZ spring musical. Try it out at home, several times to see if your child would be comfortable with that part. If they are really not keen on it, please send a note back in the agenda or email me that they would prefer NOT to have a speaking part. There are other parts in the musical such as dancing and singing, as well.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Several children are continuing to need more snack later in the day. Please review with your child that they have enough to snack on. Healthy snacks are preferred.

NEW SPELLING WORDS: bus, but, tub, I, pup - BONUS WORDS - base, Olympics (structure)
TEST ON TUESDAY.

Science: Yesterday we experimented with making hinges. Ask your child to go on a hunt at home for HINGES - you might be surprised how many you will find.
A hinge is a mechanical bearing that connects two solid objects, typically allowing only a limited angle of rotation between them.
Here are our experiments:

Yesterday we built a flat roof cabin with a solid base. Kids are  taking them home today. As well, today we looked at some A-Frame houses. They can be more affordable to build and easier to heat. Check out the videos below. Please watch together and discuss.

I also introduced the idea of building with shipping containers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITHJ2CEaZSQ
You might want to watch the building of a home (square shape) with an A-Frame style roof.

Ms. Megan - Today we had the Occupational Therapist in our class. Ms. Megan shared with us last week whole body listening. Ask your child how they are doing with this in school and at home?
Here is a reminder picture of whole body listening.

Today Ms. Megan talked to us about Social Smarts - we think about what is expected in situations. Tarrack told how his he is expected to walk the dog when he gets home from school. Estella told us how she needs to unpack her backpack when she gets home from school.
If we don't do what is expected, then it is unexpected. Unexpected means that people might have uncomfortable feelings about the person who is not doing what is expected. This may make people feel frustrated or upset.
Use your Social Smarts to do what is expected. - Be A Social Detective!

Here are a few situations to discuss. Is it expected or unexpected?

Narrative Writing: We've worked hard on telling about the characters and setting for our story. See some work below.

Writing on Friday (sorry we will not be doing TWAS again). Tomorrow the students need to figure our what is missing from this story. Is is the description of :
character
setting
problem
solution(s)
ending

Once upon a time there was a pig named Suzette.  Suzette cute, little and pink (of course!) lived on a beautiful farm. The farm had alot of big red barns and wonderful green fields where she and her pig friends could graze and eat to their heart's content.
One day she wondered off while she was grazing. She fell asleep because she was tired.
The farmer came out to get her and bring her back to the farm.
She was happy that she was home.

TOMORROW  - THE MEDAL CEREMONY!!
