Habit # 5

 Habit # 5

Seek First To Understand Then To Be Understood
Here is a video on Empathy (which you would use in Habit 5) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_1Rt1R4xbM

This week we will look at two books:
Enemy Pie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_I9NgXKtC8
Stand In My Shoes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pS4p-7JVs00

We will discuss how the characters could have used Habit #5 to understand others.

We will be presenting Habit 5 in our assembly next Monday (Nov. 6). Parents are welcome to attend at 8:35.

Colors

Today our learning intention in Science class was to predict and describe changes in colour that result from the mixing of primary colors.

Please ask your child the three Primary colors (red, yellow, blue).

Ask them what happens when you mix two primary colors together. You create a another color (a Secondary color.).Ask you child what these two colors create:

yellow and red
blue and yellow
blue and red

The answer should be, respectively : orange, green, and purple.
Ask your child how the experimenting went today.

Our learning intention was also to solve the problem of ... we need to get an orange color for our halloween art project ... how would we do that with only those three primary colors. I believe your child should be able to tell you. What did many discover  when they tried to make orange? (they were turning out too red - argh). Tomorrow we will try to add more yellow to make them more orange.

Here are some of our scientists hard at work. Here is also a video to check out (we have yet to check it out!). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmquqAP2w_8

Monday "Short But Sweet' Field Trip

On Monday, we have been invited to share in the excitement of Halloween at the Law house (Ashlyn, in our class).
Since this field trip is a short distance from the school (about half way down 7 Ave - about a 10 minute walk), we are required to inform parents that we will be walking there but no paperwork is necessary.
The Law Family has invited us to see their fun and spooky (but don't worry nothing will jump out at you) house. As well, Debra Law, was so kind to make us a fun lunch that we will have at her house. I will update the post on the exact lunch (in case your child is a picky eater).
We will leave the school at 11:00am  on Monday (ABSOLUTELY NO COSTUMES ON THIS DAY). We will return by 12:30 for our Music class, as I know Mrs. Sorenson is busy getting the kids ready for Remembrance Day.
Our learning intention for this trip is to be able to write a circle story, where we start at the school, tell about (at least) 2 things we saw at the Law house and then to return to the school.

I DO NEED TWO VOLUNTEERS TO WALK WITH US TO THE HOUSE, STAY THERE AND WALK BACK WITH US (11:00 - 12:30) PLEASE EMAIL ME.

FUN LUNCH GENEROUSLY SUPPLIED BY MRS. LAW -

URGENT Birthday Party Message

This is a note from Aisling Tomei

Adriana and Ella invited everyone in the class to their birthday party but only a small amount have RSVP'd so far. The deadline is Monday but I'm worried that perhaps some of these hand-made invitations didn't make it into the hands of the parents. Would you be able to put out a brief blog note about it? They can RSVP to me slattery_a@hotmail.com and I can also send them more info and a link to the waiver. I've attached the basic party info which could easily be posted as well. I just don't want anyone to be left out and I think this would be a great opportunity for all the kids to be together outside of school and for more of the parents to get to know each other.
Thank you so much,
Aisling Tomei

NO T.W.A.S TODAY ! :(

Hi parents
Today we did not have a chance to write up our TWAS (This week at School) as we were finishing up some other important writing.

Our learning intention today was to be able to construct a sentence: (AND THERE IS ALOT INVOLVED IN THIS PROCESS)
Capital at the first.
Period at the end.
Spaces between words.
Making sure it makes sense and no words were missing.
Making sure it was a proper sentence and not just a string of words.

As a follow up, PARENTS ask your child how they did on their work. Was there anything that was 'tricky'? What part was frustrating? How could you have solved your problem? Where can you look to find words you need to spell? What do you do if there isn't a word you can copy from? What did you make sure you included on your pages (Title, photo, sentence and color).

Here are just some of the great pieces of work.

What a Great Field Trip!

Thank you so much to our volunteers! We couldn't do such fun trips without you.

This an excerpt from Andi (the Fish Creek Park instructor) regarding our students:
Your students were wonderful ambassadors of their school: polite, attentive and extremely enthusiastic! They were an excellent group to work with and I am thankful for all of the work you both put in to help the program run so smoothly. If your students have any additional questions, I would be happy to answer them via email.

Our learning intentions for our trip was to experience an 'outdoor classroom'.
In Science, student should be able to identify the 5 senses and how they used  (4 of) them today at the park.
As well, students should be able to talk about things they saw that were living, the park habitat, how living things adapt over the seasons (such as birds migrating), and be able to talk about plants and animals that were seen at the park.
Please question your child about these concepts.
You and your child can also look at the video on how animals adapt to their environment throughout the seasons.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK058-HUK24
