Social Studies:
Here are some great videos to get us ready for learning about our past. We have reviewed the Time Lapse and Heritage Park Streetcar (so far!) PLEASE REVIEW OVER THE WEEKEND.

The Calgary Heritage Park Streetcar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIF0QlU99uU&feature=youtu.be
... you can review some facts such as the year it began (1905) and when it ended (1950).

Science:
Today we talked about three kinds of blindness:
Color blindness - people who have color blindness experience challenges distinguishing certain colors
Legally blind - people who are legally blind experience a level of vision loss
Blind - people who are blind can not see

Today we experienced what it would be like to get from one point to another when blind and guided by another person. These guides learned several steps to help them guide someone who is blind:
1- introduce your self
2.- ask the blind person if they need help and where they might want to go
3 -  the guide will bend their arm in an 'L' shape, the blind person will hold onto their elbow and the guide will be slightly in front of the blind person
4.- use a clear voice to explain speed, turning left or right, obstacle in the path or stopping

We reviewed this video to help guide us in making our experiment safe: https://www.google.ca/search?safe=strict&source=hp&ei=_fzYWsSwOsfejwPP8rywBQ&q=how+a+blind+person+uses+a+person+to+guide&oq=how+a+blind+person+uses+a+person+to+guide&gs_l=psy-ab.3..33i22i29i30k1.7084.17885.0.17993.48.37.3.4.4.0.339.3400.5j18j1j1.25.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..16.31.3382.0..0j0i131k1j0i22i30k1.0.GYCEiC_Mn-M#kpvalbx=1

Here are some pics.

We also looked at  this video too. (PLEASE REVIEW WITH YOUR CHILD)
What is Like To Be Blind (this video is talking about cataract blindness, but we focused on the challenges of what is might be like in life if you were blind - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uA-dXGUBVok

Language Arts: (STORY TO BE ADDED- SORRY)
I had the chance to introduce the concept of a Venn Diagram for two stories. A Venn Diagram is where you can compare two things (in this case, The Three Little Pigs and the story The Three Little Pugs).
Here is a video of the Three Little Pigs.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtHjB6rRmQc
Below is the story of the Three Little Pigs.

We just briefly touched on this concept. Feel free to review at home. Comparing and contrasting is reviewed in Grade1.
