Monday, Nov. 20

BLOG UPDATE: I AM GOING TO POST EVERY MONDAY AND THURSDAY (I WILL TRY THIS AND SEE HOW IT WORKS OUT). I WILL TRY TO POST BEFORE 5 OCLOCK UNLESS OTHER COMMITMENTS COME UP.  EMAILS WILL BE SENT HOME WHEN NECESSARY.

AGENDA MESSAGE - Test on 6 words on Thursday (come, funny, find, for, away, can)

LANGUAGE ARTS - Ask your child to read the sentences below. See if they can fill in the proper word. For a Grade 1 student, they should be able to sound out these words (maybe a few challenges).
I am _________.
Please ________ with me.
She went __________.
I need to _______ my pencil.
He walked ______ an hour.
We _________ work together.

MATH - Today we worked on writing our own story problem using the numeral 20. Review how to print this numeral with 2 digits. As well the digits are close together. See if your child can remember how to spell the word for 20. Review how to show Tally Marks for 20, as well.
Ask your child to tell your their story problem. See if they can draw the picture. Some students have been able to write the math sentence ( for example, 20 - 10 = 10) and others also tried to write the words that tell their about their story problem (for example, Mrs. Maze had 20 pencils.   Mrs. Helsen gave her 5 more. She had 25 all together).
Here is some work from today.

SOCIAL STUDIES - Today we reviewed how we can be responsible citizens in our home, our community and our school. Ask your child about how they will tell how they are responsible in each of those areas.
Here is us working on our 'rough' copy. That means the students will try to write the words themselves and then look back at their work to see if they need any help with spelling or reminders about putting in punctuation. Here is some of us working:

Here is some of our Social Studies work (sorry some upside down):

ASSEMBLY - Today Mrs. Nasr's class talked about how to help others who are being bullied. She spoke about how being a 'bystander' is not helping the person being bullied. We need to help those who are being bullied and not just be a 'bystander'.  I hope to get her video to post on the blog.

THANK YOU ELLA AND ADRIAN -  Mrs. Dann was SOOO excited and a little overwhelmed to tell me how proud she was of my students who raised $260.00 for the Christmas Star Fundraiser. Way to go! Thanks for putting the Merry in Merry Christmas!

MONDAY MEMORIES - Today we sat with a partner to listen to them about their weekend. Rhys and Phoebe did a great job!

MUSIC PRACTICE - Today every student was in the Gym to rehearse for the Christmas concert. Please ask your child about this.

REMINDERS:
- no toys brought to school
- please send enough snack, as several children have had no snack left by the afternoon (one possibility is to label the snack for when it should be eaten)
- if your child did not get the book that was given to all Grade 1 students, titled, 'Good Morning Canada', please remind them to get one from me tomorrow
- Home Reading should be exchanged daily and returned daily
- Agenda needs to come to school daily
- Please make sure you signed up for Interviews (NO SCHOOL FRIDAY)

AS WELL - I STILL HAVE A FEW OF THE KID'S PHOTOS (CALEB, ELLA, PHOEBE).
